Healthy & Clean Reese's Cups
Why You Probably Shouldn’t Treat Yourself to Junk
The Problem with junk food is that it is chemically engineered by food scientists to leave us wanting more. Yes - this is 100% true. Chips, chocolate, fast food, any type of junk food you can think of is tested by food scientists to hit our brains leaving us wanting more. If you’re like me in any way - if you have it in the house it will be eaten. Sometimes the term everything in moderation doesn’t work out so well. Especially when the food industries are just wanting us to crave more and more.
How Do We Solve This Problem?
Healthy alternatives!!!!! There is healthy recipes for almost every single type of junk food/treat out there. Using natural sweeteners, healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, and gluten-free less processed flour (almond flour, coconut flour, cassava flour) is a great way to avoid this feeling of wanting more and more of whatever you are going to indulge in. You are also controlling what goes into the food at what quantity because you’re making it yourself! And I can guarantee that you aren’t going to be putting chemicals in your treats to trick your brain into wanting to eat more than you should be. It’s worth it to just make your own! Once your taste buds adapt to eating more natural, clean foods you won’t even taste the difference :)
Reece’s Cups Recipe
INGREDIENTS
*10oz (283g) bag of chocolate chips (I prefer Enjoy Life chocolate Chips - only 3 ingredients)
*1 cup Almond Butter (can also use natural peanut butter)
*1 Tbsp coconut oil
*1 Tbsp raw honey
*Pinch of pink himalayan or sea salt
DIRECTIONS
1) Melt the entire bag of chocolate chips in either the microwave or stove.
2) Add in 1 Tbsp of coconut oil to the melting chocolate.
3) In a separate bowl mix peanut or almond butter with 1 Tbsp of honey. (You may need to microwave the almond butter a bit to make it easier to work with).
4) Use a mini muffin tin and line it with the appropriate sized muffin cups.
5) Pour a small layer of chocolate into the muffin cup to just cover the bottom of the cup. *
6) Add your almond or peanut butter on top of the small layer of chocolate.
7) Finish by covering with chocolate. *
*I used a spoon to pour the chocolate - you need about 1 tsp of chocolate on the bottom and top of the almond/peanut butter.
8) Cool in the fridge for at least 1/2 hour.
9) Sprinkle sea salt or pink himalayan salt on top
STAY HEALTHY :)
