CHIA SEEDS
Chia seeds are high in fiber, omega-3 fats, zinc, vitamin B1, B2, B3, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium… the list goes on.
I love chia seeds for the high omega-3 fat content. The standard american diet (SAD) diet is very high in omega-6 fats because of the high consumption of corn and soy products. Our conventionally raised animals are also fed these products thus, exacerbating the consumption of these omega-6 fats. Omega-6 fats are essential to our health but they should be consumed in an appropriate ratio to omega-3 fats. The standard american diet consumes an extreme ratio of 12:1, or even 25:1 omega-6 fats to omega-3 fats. This is way too much omega-6 fats. The ratio should be around 4:1 or even better a 1:1.
Omega-3 fats are critical for proper brain function, hormone regulation, they can help lower cholesterol levels, they can help joint pain by decreasing inflammation, reduce the risk of heart disease and reduce cognitive decline.
Please consume more omega-3 fats for your health!!! Other great sources — fish oil, fish, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed, sea vegetables/algae, grass-fed meat, avocado.
All of this to say that we do not consume enough omega-3 fats which is why I love incorporating chia seeds into my diet.
Enjoy your omega-3 fats in this yummy chia pudding recipe! :)
