What Drives My Passion:
I grew up playing competitive sports and quickly fell in love with training and working towards a goal. My athletic career ended when I decided to get serious about my education in order to pursue a career as a health professional. I finished my degree, became a certified trainer, and developed a strong desire to use my scientific background to teach others how to train and live a healthy lifestyle. I am currently working with the athletic population to improve sport performance as well as the general population that wants to just improve their physique and fitness level.
It's very important to me as a health care professional to continually add to my education. I feel as though to serve my clients to my full potential I need to be constantly learning. I want my clients to learn and grow just as I am constantly learning and growing. I am currently working on studying for my certified strength and conditioning specialist certification (CSCS) with the NSCA. I also plan on obtaining my NTA Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certification in the future. I value my job and want to bring my clients the most efficient, safest, sustainable, and intelligent way to enhance their lives.
Listening to our bodies and understanding our own personal health requirements is a huge part of what drives my passion.
To perform our best we must feel our best.
MY PERSONAL HEALTH JOURNEY:
The transition out of sports was very difficult for me. Training for sports was my reason to workout, when this was gone I had no purpose to train. I have always lived a very active lifestyle but the training aspect was always sports performance driven. I now had to figure out how to enjoy training without a specific goal in mind. I also started University at this time and was 18 years old trying to figure out how to balance school work, relationships, living on my own for the first time, the intense stress demands of school, oh and I decided to add a puppy to the mix. I was always aware of food because to exercise as much as an athlete does you need to eat. Although, when you are an athlete you can essentially eat what you want and your body composition remains the same due to high energy output (of course not recommended - food quality is very important, but I was young and did not listen to my coaches). When I stopped sports I didn’t think about the lack of energy expenditure I would be experiencing and I basically ate the same way. Not super unhealthy but also not great, and waaaaaay too much food for my new lifestyle. Thus, navigating my new sedentary lifestyle was tough (sedentary for me, compared to what I was used - sports 6days/week). During the next few years I experienced a number health issues. I had deficiencies, gained a bit of weight, contracted mono, did not know how to deal with the high amount of stress that was going on in my life and felt the wrath of constantly being fatigued and ‘sick’. Once I hit this low point I decided to finally take control of my health. I changed my diet and learned everything I possibly could about nutrition and how to optimize my body. I used what I was learning in school and outside sources to find a way of eating that made me feel amazing. Now that I finally felt energized and my health was improving, I knew it was time to establish a training style that I could stick to. I found a method that made me excited to hit the gym and I realized I can still improve performance just because I don’t have a specific sport to train for. I fell in love with working out and it became part of my daily life again. This process is still on going!! It ebbs and flows, motivation comes and goes but I now have the tools and knowledge to know what works best for my body.
This all started by putting my focus on just two simple things - health and then movement. To this day these two fundamentals are still my focus. I am constantly evolving and continually progressing - there is no end point - optimizing health and movement is a LIFESTYLE ! If you make these fundamentals your priority, you can unlock your full potential and take control of your life. You can be Unstoppable. Being in control of your body and learning how to listen to it is one of the most empowering feelings in the world. I’m not perfect, I don’t know everything but I want to share what I’ve learned and what I’m currently learning to help you in any way I can. Changing your health and fitness routine is much easier when you have a support system - that’s why I’ve created this platform to share information that is helpful for me and will hopefully be helpful for you as well!
